Gulfstream G550

The Gulfstream G550 is a business jet built by a division of General Dynamics. It was developed from the Gulfstream V to improve aerodynamics allowing for increased range. It is currently the longest range business jet in the world, with a range of 7,750 miles. It can seat 14 to 19 passengers. Cargo capacity is 6,500 lbs. maximum; this includes the weight of the passengers, so more people equals less baggage.

The aircraft has a crew of two, plus up to two flight attendants. It has been on the market since 2003.

The G550 burns 923 gallons of jet fuel per hour of routine usage. A full load of fuel costs $19,062.

Design Notes:

Body is 1,895 cf; Wings are 1,420 cf, Engine Pods are 66 cf each; wheels are 94.75 cf. Structure is Medium, Standard with Very Good Streamlining. Body volume was taken as the sum of cabin and cargo volumes given for the actual aircraft. Wing volume was reverse-engineered from actual wing area. Armor is DR 15 Expensive Metal. View is Poor. Mechanical controls. Design loaded weight is 87,890 lbs., which is 3% under the historical value. Actual wing area (1,137 sf) and maximum take-off weight (91,000 lbs.) were used for performance calculations. Design aSpeed was 716 mph. Actual values for take-off and landing runs are shown. Unit price was $59.9 million in 1998.

Variants:

The G500 is a shorter-range version of the G550. It does not feature a thermograph, although it is available as an option.

The C-37B is the U.S. military version. It is used as a VIP transport (including the President).
